Description
Turn any drum hit into a rock-solid MIDI note — and, if you want, a layered sample. Hair Trigger listens to a drum track, detects every hit, and fires a MIDI note with matched velocity so you can drive a sampler or drum instrument. It also blends a triggered sample straight into the audio, so it doubles as a lightweight sound replacer.
What it does
- Audio → MIDI — detects hits and outputs MIDI notes (note, channel, gate, timing) to trigger any instrument.
- Velocity that follows your playing — soft hits stay soft, hard hits crack, with full control over the curve, floor/ceiling and dynamics.
- Sound Replacer — load your own sample and balance it against the original signal, right in the plugin.
Smart detection + Learn
Hit Learn, play a few bars, and Hair Trigger sets the threshold and picks the best detection mode: Auto, Peak (isolated backbeats), or Transient (fast rolls, fills and double kicks that ring between hits). A Focus band keeps it locked onto the right drum and rejects bleed. A live Trigger Scope shows every detected hit — drag the line to fine-tune.
Tight, recording-ready timing
Studio mode back-dates the note-on to the transient so recorded MIDI sits exactly on the hit; Live mode fires at detection for the lowest monitoring latency. A Timing control lets you nudge it to taste.

Available as VST3, Audio Unit (macOS) and a Standalone app for Windows, macOS and Linux. Native Apple Silicon + Intel.
